Question:
It is my understanding that the furrion e3 error is from a problem with the control box. How do I know which one needs replacing in a multi zone with 2acs?

In order to determine which control box needs replacing I recommend checking the wires that go to the controller and make sure there are no kinks or breaks in the wires. You can also try connecting the wires from the thermostat directly to the control box.
I also recommend checking that the wires that go to the "A" and "B" ports are in the correct spots. Sometimes in production these wires can get flipped and would cause a communication error.
