Question:

This valve works fine ... until I put vinegar as recommended by dometic into the dometic hot water heater to get rid of a rotten egg smell. The vinegar destroyed the valve seat, stopping flow in both directions. What is a suitable valve to use as a replacement?

I am sorry to hear that. Usually the vinegar solution is a completely safe cleaning method. To replace the valve I recommend the Valterra RV Water Heater Bypass Valve # P23401LF. I prefer this one over the others because it is the approved replacement from Dometic, and we have received much better feedback on these than we have with other brands.
