To add brakes to a trailer you'll need check the axle to see if a brake flange was welded to it. If not then you'll need to replace the axle in order to add brakes. Once we have a mounting point for the brake assembly we'll need to know the capacity of the axle and the bearing combination for the spindle. You can measure points B, C, and D on the diagram below to determine the inner diameter of the bearings. With this and the axle capacity we can determine the correct hub and brake assembly size. We'll need to also know the bolt pattern for your wheels so that the new hubs will be compatible.

From there you'll need to run 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 from the brake assemblies up to the junction box of the trailer. The trailer most likely has a 4-pole connector so you'll also need to swap that out for a 7-way with part # e99011. The vehicle you choose to tow the trailer with is also going to need a 7-way connector and a brake controller in order to activate the brakes. You'll also need a breakaway battery and switch to activate the brakes in the event that the trailer becomes disconnected from the tow vehicle.

A lot of little things go into this so if you need more help I can provide parts once we have more information on your trailer and the vehicle you're wanting to tow with.
