2021 Volvo S60 Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation

Question:

Your website indicates that the Saris Bones 2 bike carrier will work with my 2021 Volvo S60 sedan. However, the Saris website indicates that the side hooks need an additional part see below. I was leaning towards the Saris because it had 6 straps. 1. Is that part really needed? 2. What trunk rack do you recommend looking for secure it and little sway? Thank you. Part #3045 Hatch Hugger required to replace Side Hooks

Yes, the Hatch Huggers # SA3035 are required to install the Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack # SA805BL on your 2021 Volvo S60. This is due to there not being enough room for the hooks to fit on the sides of the rear door. Since the hatch huggers sit inside the hatch and pull against it on the inside this takes care of the issue so you can have those side straps secured as well.

The Saris Bones is a very popular rack but my main issue with it is how the arms and main body adjust in and out. Most other racks have a simple numbered unlock and rotate feature so everything can be matched up but the Bones requires you to slide the arms and legs over to make any adjustments, and since nothing is numbered it's also kind of guesswork to get everything lined up.

My personal favorite trunk mount rack is the Yakima FullBack 2 Bike Rack # Y02634. I've had the opportunity to install a handful of the trunk mount racks and this is by far the easiest to install and use, plus it looks great as well. This does only use 4 straps compared to the 6 straps on the Saris, but those extra 2 straps aren't as necessary as you'd think, especially when you get everything snugged up. The hooks on the FullBack have small slits in them in case you need to install them in "anchor mode" which is the same as using Hatch Huggers.

Attached is an installation video where I show the FullBack installed on a 2020 Audi Q7 for you to check out.
