Are Self-Tapping Screws Enough To Mount The Thule TracRac Contractor Ladder Rack To The Bed

Question:

I have a 2017 Tacoma SR5. # TH14750 will fit my truck. My question is.... are self-tapping screws sufficiently strong to attach to my vehicle? Thanks for the assistance.

The 5/16"-18 x 1-3/4 tap bolt and 5/16"-18 x 1-1/2 fully threaded bolt included with the Thule TracRac Contractor Truck Bed Ladder Rack # TH14750 would be enough to mount the rack to your Tacoma's bed. If you're saying you're using other self-tapping screws than the ones included in the kit then you would match the grade and size in order to be rated high enough to secure it to the truck bed and allow it to handle the full 250 capacity.
