Why Won't The B&W Trailer Hitch Receiver Fit a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Short Bed With Factory Receiver?

Question:

05 Ram 1500, 5.7L, quad cab, 6.3foot bed Why will this hitch only work on an 8foot bed? Aside from that, it looks exactly what Im looking for. I dont need this much weight rating, but I want more than factory and I want the receiver to tuck up as snug to the bumper as possible.

The B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver # BWHDRH25211 we found hit a factory exhaust hanger on the short bed version of your 2005 Ram 1500. While this will fit with a simple relocation of the hanger we put the note saying it will only work on the 8' bed since it requires modification. Since you want the receiver to fit snug as possible to your factory bumper you might consider the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 14361 since the B&W and all other receivers designed to fit with the factory receiver are designed to hang below the factory receiver. Using the Curt will require some modification since it was designed to fit trucks which came without a factory receiver.
