Question:

Id like to get more utility out of the lower level of this trailer. Are the lower bars compatible with the Yakima LockNLoad platforms? If so, whats the largest one that would fit? Alternatively, would the MegaWarrior fit with the optional extension for the basket? Note: I would prefer the LockNLoad, as the side rails of the MegaWarrior look like they will impede loading and unloading on the lower level.

Yes, there are a few Yakima LockNLoad trays that will fit on the lower portion of the Yakima EasyRider Double Decker Trailer # Y08129. According to Yakima their largest tray is the "E" which measures 84"x49" which can be found here:

Since the MegaWarrior comes with the raised sides I don't recommend going that route because it will make loading and unloading gear a little more of a hassle (like what you mentioned). If you want to add some brackets to help keep things stabilized then we have the Corner Bracket Kit # Y05036 which comes with the corner brackets and eye bolts to give you some options for securing cargo to the platform rack.
