Correct Torque Spec For The Curt 30K Hitch Ball C40088

Question:

Bought the Curt 40088 with the 2inch diameter shank. Torque instruction said 4550 lbs....how is that suppose to be accomplished? That 2 5/16 ball will be used to tow no more than 16k....The reason I got this item was for the shank length... What do I need to do Thank you

There is definitely a typo in Curts instructions. I noticed that their website also says 4550 lbs. So this must have been entered incorrectly by someone at some point. The correct torque spec for the nut on the # C40088 is 450 ft lbs. I confirmed this with my contact at Curt.

Torquing something like this to 4550 ft lbs would not be physically possible. That would be way beyond anything any human could achieve. So unless those instructions were written by the Greek god Hercules, it is certainly a typo.
