Question:

Can you tell me the parts needed to flat tow a 2012 Mini Coupe S R58. I already have a Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar and Blue Ox Patriot 3 braking system. Roadmaster says they don’t make a base plate that fits the Mini Coupe, but it looks like Blue Ox has a fit with their BX1307? So can you confirm that’s the right base plate, what I’d need to make that base plate work with the Nighthawk, and what wiring kits I’d need for the Mini possibly including a battery charge line kit?

According to Blue Ox's fitment guide the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1307 would be a compatible fit for a 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe S. To connect the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676 to a Blue Ox baseplate you'll replace the connection points with part # RM-031-5.

Since the Nighthawk comes with an adapter cable and 6-pole socket you really only need the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 and the 6-pole socket mounting bracket # RM-910030-5. If you don't have the socket any longer or want to leave it on the old vehicle then you can get another with part # RM-910030-7.

The Blue Ox Patriot can easily be transferred over but you'll need a 12v outlet that's wired directly to the battery to power it. If you don't have one in the Mini then you'll also need part # RM-9332.

To keep your vehicle's battery charged while you tow you'll want the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25.
