Parts Needed To Replace Surge Coupler For Disc Brakes With Electric Over Hydraulic

Question:

I use my boat/trailer in salt water. My actuator keeps breaking and I was leaning towards electric brakes. I have a GMC that I can add the braking module. Would salt water be a concern? What is the cost over all? I am assuming I will have to replace the coupler, the wiring, and the brakes I have disc brakes currently. Boat and trailer are roughly 6600 lbs. 25 ft Tahoe. Thank you!

Since you already have hydraulic disc brakes on your boat trailer I recommend using the Hydrastar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator # HS381-8067 versus changing over to electric brakes. The disc brakes are far superior to electric drum brakes and salt water can cause more issues inside the drum brakes than you get with disc brakes. You will also need the Wiring Kit # HS381-9000 and a Breakaway Battery Kit # 3802311 switching to brakes controlled by a brake controller. If you can provide me with more information on your GMC I can recommend an electric brake controller capable of working with electric over hydraulic brakes.

Finally you will need a coupler like the Demco # DM15000-52 to replace your surge actuator. If you can provide me with the bolt pattern your coupler uses along with the dimensions of your trailer tongue frame I can ensure which coupler will fit in place of your surge coupler.
