Helpful Expert Reply:
I went out to our warehouse for you and measured both the Round A-Frame Trailer Jack part # TJA-5000-B and Ram Round A-Frame Trailer Jack part # TJA-2000-Z, the mounting plates are the same thickness which I measured at 3/16". That said, this isn't really where the jacks capacity comes from but rather the internal mechanism i.e. the jack screw. If you had a failure at the plate then I would suspect an issue with the mounting surface or the weld attaching the jack tube to the mounting plate. If the latter proves true, the issue would be covered under warranty if purchased within the last year.
