Replacing A Dometic RV Air Conditioner Rooftop Unit With An Advent Air Unit

I’m having some problems getting the wiring right I had a dometic unit in my trailer and replacing it with an Avnet one and can’t seem to get it to work properly

If you're replacing just the rooftop unit of your Dometic system with the Advent Air # ACM135 then it's a super easy swap out. You'll just need to trace the wire harness of the old rooftop unit to the controller. It's going to have a 6-pin or 9-pin connector to plug into the controller. If the old unit has a 9-pin connector then you'll just need an adapter # ACCOLKIT. I've attached a short video below where I'll show you the wire harness and controller.

If your old Dometic system had a heat pump then you will be losing this function since it's inside of the rooftop unit and there is not one in the Advent Air units.

If this is what the issue is then I'll need a bit more of a description on what you've done so far and what is working in order to troubleshoot the issue.

The last 2 ASA units I put on where a dometic brisk air was, they had changed the plug on the ASA unit to the same kind as on the receiving plug on the control box. So I had to cut the plug off the old Dometic unit and used it on the ASA unit. Is there an adapter for that one?

@Earl How new are the Advent ASA units? They changed the wiring and the plugs due to a refrigerant change that required rewiring for safety reasons. All RV air conditioners produced 2025 or later have this new refrigerant and wiring and are not backwards compatible with older units so there are not adapters available. I don't recommend cutting the plug off and rewiring it, because this may permanently damage the AC unit.

@ClaireH The only difference is the plug, Dometic just didn’t want ASA selling a cheaper AC than they make. The wiring is exactly the same size plug is the same size they are just trying to keep you from saving money they want you to spend $1400 on there junk instead of $650. On the ASa which is better. I have 2 on mine and there is nothing wrong with the way they work. Like I said zero difference other than the plug connector.

@Earl I’m glad to hear the units are still working well for you. I do want to mention that since the original plugs were removed, the warranty on the units would unfortunately be voided. The compatibility information I provided came directly from ASA. They held a training class with us covering the differences and changes made to units produced after 2024. If your units were manufactured prior to 2025, that would explain why the wiring still matches up with your setup.
