On a Steel Hinge # MA52VR you will want to use a wire brush to remove as much surface rust as possible. Then you will be able to coat the hinge with a rust preventative paint on the main surface area. On the actual hinge portion it is best to coat that area with a lubricant like WD-40 which helps to displace moisture and prevent rust.
