Does Trailer Tongue Length Have an Affect on Axle Placement

Question:
I am building a 10’ trailer with a 48”tongue. Does the formula work for a short trailer? Including the tongue in D in the measurement for axle placement? This will put the axle closer to the center of the 10’ deck before adjustments to compensate for tongue weight.

The formula used for determining trailer axle placement (attached below) is just a general guideline. If you're building a trailer with a longer/shorter tongue than a standard trailer would have you may need to adjust these measurements. That said, we aren't custom trailer builders so we really can't provide specifics and the final location will be up to the installer.
If you need the hardware to attach your axle to the frame, I recommend the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs part # APS4.
