According to the Owners manual for your 2017 Ford Explorer you are rated to tow up to 2,000lbs without a factory installed tow package. Be sure to check your owners manual for your exact engine and driveline to verify you do not exceed the GCWR. You should not need to add anything else to your Explorer for your 400lb trailer. You can reach out to your Ford dealer to determine if you can install parts like a Transmission Cooler # D13503 to increase the towing capacity if you decide to tow additional loads over the 2,000lb weight limit.
