Question:
Hi, when a WDH is rated for say 1k tongue weight, at what distribution is that rating? i.e. does that mean its able to transfer the full 1k ie have front at same height as unloaded or say 50 bring the front back down .5inch from a 1inch lift

Great question!
The tongue weight rating on a weight distribution hitch (WDH), like the 1K Blue Ox TrackPro # BLU55FR, takes into account the loaded tongue weight of your trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle (which is known as the total tongue weight). When a WDH is set up correctly your vehicle should be within 1" of it's unloaded height.
To make sure you get the best performance be sure to have your loaded trailer tongue measured at 10-15% the weight of your loaded trailer and then keep the TTW in about the middle of the WDH tongue weight range.
The WDH mentioned above has a tongue weight range of 800 lbs - 1,000 lbs so ideally your loaded trailer tongue weight plus the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle will be about 900 lbs.
Attached is a review video of the TrackPro for you to check out. To easily find the tongue weight of your trailer each time you load up I recommend picking up the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale # e99044 which I'm attaching a video on as well.
