What Size Thread Tap to Clean Out Weld Nuts of 2003 Honda Odyssey for Curt Hitch

Question:
The weld nuts on my Honda are bad! What size tap should I use to chase the threads to clean them out? The wire brush is not the right tool for this job

The bolts of the Curt hitch part # C12031 that install in factory weldnuts are M12 -1.25x35 mm so the correct tap would be M12x1.25. The other size bolts that come with this hitch install with included nuts.
