Question:

I have a 2013 fiat 500 with the blue ox towing base plate I bought a few years ago. Does the 2017 fiat 500 Abarth take the same base plate? If not is it a small or large modification?

The Blue Ox base plates between the 2013 and 2017 Fiat 500 models are the same as long as you have the same sub model for the vehicle. It looks like the mounting locations are the same for the products but the difference is where the tabs are located so that does make enough of a difference that you'll need a new base plate kit. If your 2013 is an Abarth then it will work for your 2017 Abarth. If they are different you'll need a new base plate kit.

2013 Fiat 500
Pop and Lounge models - # BX2801

2017 Fiat 500

For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
