Will 7-Leaf Slipper Spring Work If It's 1/4" Shorter Than Current Leaf Spring
Published 10/18/2022 >
Question:
My spring measures 26-7/8" overall. Will this still work? The spring on the other side looks to be in good shape but measures that 26-7/8" as well. Would it mess something up if I only change one side out?

Expert Reply:
It isn't uncommon for leaf springs to expand a little over time as they start to wear down and flatten out. Since your leaf spring measures 26-7/8" that's only 1/4" more than the 7-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 8,000-lb Trailer Axles # e37SR which is perfectly normal so you'll be good to go in those regards.
As a rule, whatever happens to one side of the axle needs to happen to the other side of the axle to keep everything operating and wearing smoothly so you definitely want to change out the spring on both sides of your axle.
