Published 10/12/2022

Question:

I have a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek manual transmission that I would like to flat tow behind Class C motorhome. What do I need to get this setup to tow? Towbar, brake system, etc?

For your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, I recommend checking out the:

-Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX3620 for a base plate kit. This base plate kit is custom fit for your vehicle, and features easily removable arms that keep a sleek finish to your vehicle when not in use.

Next, to go with your Blue Ox base plate, I recommend checking out the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox Base Plates # RM-677.

This tow bar has a weight capacity of 8,000-lbs, which is more than enough capacity for your 2014 Subaru Crosstrek, will fit in standard 2" x 2" trailer hitch receivers, and includes the 7-way to 6-way wiring adapter, as well as the necessary safety cables.

Continuing on, you're going to also need a braking kit like the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This braking system is great because its easy to setup, portable, so you can transport it between vehicles, and includes a wireless remote that mounts in your cab.

Finally, you're going to need a set of tow bar wiring. I recommend going with the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154.

This wiring harness is needed to connect your RV's tail, brake and turn signal lights to your towed car's lighting system.
