how can I determine how long of a bolt I will need as the one provided is too short?

If the bolt that comes with the 2" Hitch Ball with Internal Thread part # EI2C-C is too short you'd simply need to take a trip to the hardware store and pick up a new 3/4"-10 bolt in the length you need. For reference, the included bolt is 2" long.
