Question:
I have a Fastway e2 8K weight distribution hitch. It originally came with L-pins #92039205...the style where the short leg of the pin rests on top off the trunnion bar and a cotter pin holds it in place on the bottom of the L-pin. Id like to buy a replacement style with the built-in retention snap ring. However, pictures show that this snap ring can hold the L-pin up and out of the L-bracket hole a bit and keep the short leg of the L-pin from resting on top of the trunnion bar. Is it necessary for the short leg of the L-pin to rest on top of the trunnion bar? If not, is this snap ring style L-pin a suitable substitute for the Fastway e2 8K WDH?

Expert Reply:
The only job of the Replacement L-Pin for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Systems part # FA92-03-9205 is to keep the spring bar from becoming detached from the frame bracket. The spring bar is going to naturally pin itself down onto the frame bracket, the pin is just there to make sure it does not slip or bounce off. It doesn't need to be in direct contact with the spring at all times. If you need the cotter pin as well we offer this as the Replacement L-Pin Clip for Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Systems part # FA92-04-9208.
