Question:

Looking for the factory color code for the rear trailer connector. It was ripped off and I dont want to be messing with it all day while replacing it. Can you help?

The colors that GM typically uses for their factory trailer wiring are as follows -

Dark Green - Right Turn/Brake Lights
Yellow - Left Turn/Brake Lights
Brown - Tail Lights
White - Ground
Light Green - Backup Lights
Blue - Electric Brakes
Red/Black - 12 Volt Power

We had a 2007 Chevy Silverado with the factory trailer wiring on our lot, so I went out and verified that it had the same color code. I also noticed a white tag on the wiring harness that listed the functions of each wire color. Depending on where your trailer connector ripped off, you may have a white tag on your wires as well.

Vehicle manufacturers have intermittently changed wiring colors over the years. I recommend using a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993 if you do not have one, on the factory wiring harness to verify that the correct wire has been located for the proper function. Testing the wires should not take very long at all, you will just want a helper to run through the light functions as you test each of the wires.

John, I also have an 07 Silverado. Can you tell me where the light green color connects when putting on a new 7 pin plug? Thenew plug does not have a lightgreen wire to match it up with.

@Joe Depending on which brand 7-way connector you are installing, it is likely either a purple wire or I've also seen manufacturers use a yellow wire for that circuit. Can you tell me which brand 7-way you are installing? Maybe a part number if possible?
