Can Trailer Battery be Set Up to be Charged When Towing and From Shore Power
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
Id like to have a 12V battery in my trailer to control all my interior lights converting cargo trailer. Id like to be able to charge the battery either from the 7 pin when towing and from the shore power when not towing. Using a Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center, what would I need to accomplish that? And would I need to connect the battery to the control center in a different fashion? Also, would I need an automatic transfer switch or would I need something else? Thanks.

Yes, you can charge your RV battery from the trailer wiring when towing by just running the 12 volt accessory circuit to the positive post of the battery as well as charge from shore power using a Progressive Dynamics Power Control Center like the part # PD4135K like you mentioned. Unlike AC power you can run two DC power sources without needing a transfer switch. You can just run the wire from the trailer connector to the battery and then also the wire from the control panel and you'd be set.
If you need 10 gauge wire we also sell it by the foot with part # 10-1-1.
