Question:
Does the C35FR in 5 wire configuration sense the back up lights on to trip the backup solenoid on my surge brake equipped boat trailer with LED lights?? Tripping the solenoid releases the surge trailer brakes that would otherwise be applied by the brake actuator.

Expert Reply:
The 7-Way to 5- and 4-Way adapter # C35FR contains load resistors that provide more draw on the system so that the vehicle, in this case a 2010 Volkswagen Touareg, will not give that bulb out alert and the lights will work properly on the trailer. This should also include the reverse electric lockout solenoid on the actuator.
In some cases you will need additional load resistors, # DI34ZR, to get everything working properly.
Make sure that the reverse light function on the 7-Way connector is functioning by using a circuit tester, such as # PTW2992, and testing the center pin. You will want to chock the wheels and have the emergency brake engaged, then have someone sit in the vehicle with their foot on the brake and shift into reverse while you test the connector.
