5th Wheel Hitch Upgrade From a Curt E16 for a 2011 Ford F-250 Short Bed without Prep Package

Question:

Hello. I have the E16 head and the R16 roller Base with above frame rails on a 2011 F250 SD diesel short bed. I assume this the low end of the scale. Please advise what would be middle of the line and top. I would replace both but keep the rails if possible.

If you are looking to upgrade your current Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Roller # 16516 that attaches to industry standard rails, there are a couple of routes you can go.

You can replace just the head unit of your current R16 roller with the Replacement Head Unit for Curt A16 and Q16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # C16520 which will provide you with an upgraded 5th wheel hitch head featuring an interlocking 2-jaw system that provides 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This is going to be more secure and produce less rattle than the slide bar style of your E16 and is made in the USA. This could be viewed as a middle of the line option, you would have an upgraded hitch head but would still be using the same slider.

You could also upgrade to the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270. This hitch is sourced and made in the USA and is considered by many to be top of the line. This will replace the entire 5th wheel hitch assembly (head and slider) but it will still use your industry standard rails to mount.

The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # BWRVK3270 has a built in slider, 3/4" thick dual jaws that provide 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact, polyurethane bushings and a fully articulating head.
