Question:
Hello I have the 5th hitch C16115 E16 with universal bed kit. Just upgraded to a 40ft toy hauler with 15,500 gross weight. Will my current 16,000 5th wheel be adequate for that camper? Or should I upgrade to a 18k, or 20k, if so what one would work on my rail kit? It is mounted securely frame and gooseneck frame under bed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Ken

While the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16115 is technically capable of handling your new 15,500lb trailer, manufacturers recommend only using 80-85% of the hitch's total weight capacity to ensure there is a safety barrier.
Since you have an ISR base rail kit your options are pretty wide, but I personally recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 18,000lbs # BWRVK3255. B&W is an American made hitch and is well known for their quality. The pivot arms of this hitch can easily be adjusted to help keep your trailer level while towing.
If you have a bed shorter than 8' then I recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - 18,000lbs # BWRVK3270, which is the same as the hitch above but with a sliding base to give you an additional 12" of turning clearance.
