Question:
I have a new 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara which I am getting ready to install the 8700 Invisibrake in. The jeep already has a separate and independent brake and tail light system installed that is not connected to the jeeps OEM lighting separate bulbs installed in the tail light enclosure. Here is my question: The manual states that the Invisibrake indicator light and alarm single black wire should be hook to the “Cold” side of the towed vehicle’s brake switch then run to the front of the towing vehicle and grounded there so that there is an indication of when the Invisibrake actually actuates the brake pedal. Could this same action be accomplished by simply attaching the black wire to one of the Jeep’s OEM brake wires in order to detect that the jeep’s brakes have been actuated because the jeep’s brake lights work even if the ignition switch is on or off. I am wanting to know because it is next to impossible to get to the jeep break switch without pulling part of the dash off.

You will want to connect the alert wire as indicated in the instructions because in certain situations the lighting signals from the motor home could override the lights on the Jeep and the indicator would not give you the correct reading. If it is at the brake switch, then you know that the brake pedal is moving and not just the lights lighting up.
The wire you are looking for is most likely a white/brown wire. That is what it was on the 2012 and 2013 models so that is where I would start looking for the correct wire.
You will need a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 if you do not already have one to locate the correct wire. Remember you want the wire that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed and NOT also if the head lights or turn signals are on.
