Which Transmission Line Fittings are Needed to Install Transmission Cooler in 2011 Chevy Traverse

Updated 10/18/2013 | Published 10/17/2013

Question:

I own a 2011 Chevy Traverse LS w/o the tow package, and am interested in purchasing the D13502 transmission cooler. It says on your site, that I will need the D13035 or D13018. How do I know which one I am going to need. I also noticed that the D13018 has two 2 adapters, whereas the D13035 only has one 1. Do I need to purchase two 2 of the D13035 kit ?

If you use the # D13035 snap in fitting, you will avoid having to cut and flare your transmission lines, which is why I recommend using it.

You will need only one of the fittings, which will be clear when you view the video I have linked you to. You will simply remove the e-clip holding the transmission return line to the radiator. The D13035 fitting will snap into where the line was removed. One hose from the cooler will plug into the fitting you removed, the other hose would install onto the D13035 that has been snapped into the radiator.

I have linked you to an installation video showing the cooler being installed on a Chevy Suburban. The procedure for your Traverse would be similar. You will need to verify the location where the transmission return line exits the radiator. Locate the two lines running from the transmission to the radiator.

To determine which is the supply and which is the return line:
1. Start engine while engine is cold
2. Put your transmission into Drive for no more than 10 seconds
3. Stop engine, remove keys
4. Identify oil return line by feeling both lines, the cooler of the two is the return line- a no touch thermometer like # ALL648564 makes locating the correct line much easier.
