Can I Use the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 to Mount an E-Bike on My 2012 Volkswagen Golf?

Published 05/18/2022

Question:

Thanks Bob, unfortunately I have the 11/4 receiver on my golf (which I think is the only real option). however the bike in question is 65lbs base (without battery as confirmed by the manufacturer). yuba cargo electric bike. The only concern I have is having a second bike if I am at the exact weight limit for one of them.

While I may have an answer that might work, you cannot use the Thule EasyFold XT # TH903202 if a single bike exceeds the 65-pound per bike weight capacity. For this reason, you cannot use, say, an 80 pound e-bike by itself or with another bike on the rack even if it stays under 130 pounds.

Although, if your e-bike is at a bit above 65 pounds, removing the battery can remove some weight so that you can most likely be under the limit. This is the best option since we do not carry any other bike racks that are compatible with 1-1/4" hitches with a higher weight capacity. We also only offer 1-1/4" hitches for non-R 2012 Golf models like the Curt # C11000. We also do not have a roof-mounted bike rack option that has the weight capacity you require.

I understand the concern! If your Yuba Cargo E-Bike is at 65 pounds with the battery removed, you are 100% absolutely OK to mount another bike to the rack up to an additional 65 pounds. This is still under the per-bike weight capacity of the EasyFold XT # TH903202. I know that some of the Yuba Cargo bikes have longer wheelbases than most models, so I recommend confirming that your wheelbase on your bike is less than the maximum 51-3/16" that is compatible with the rack. Also, if your bikes happen to have fat tires that are between 3 and 4-11/16 inches wide, you need the fat tire straps # TH985101 for each of those fat bikes.
