Question:
How can I convert the factory installed 4-way trailer connector to a 7-way trailer connector? I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder The trailer has electronic brakes. Please advise. Thanks

Expert Reply:
The correct 7-way trailer wiring harness for your 2005 Nissan Pathinder that has the factory 4-way is the kit part # 118282. This plugs right in and does not require any wiring or splicing. Since your trailer has brakes you'll need a brake controller to activate them as standard trailer wiring doesn't have ability to do that.
So for a brake controller the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED24FR is a really great option. Once installed it only leaves a small knob on the dash instead of a larger unit that you might hit with your knees or just not like the look of. This is a proportional controller which means that it senses how hard you apply the vehicle brakes and applies a similar amount of braking power to the trailer brakes. Then to install it you only need the harness part # RED39FR which plugs into the factory plug under the dash.
