Question:

I have a 2016 SoCal Off-Road Tear Krawler 459. It currently has a 2 3/8 inch 3500 lb axle that sits on top of the leafs and has 9-way adjustable Rancho RS9000XL shocks. Im looking to add a 5000 lb axle that will sit under the leafs. How do I measure for new shocks? Im guessing the 5000 lb axle will be 3 inch in diameter. I could keep a 3500 lb axle and just go to a 3 inch diameter. Thanks!

If you're upgrading to a 5,200 lb 3" axle and you're planning on placing it under the leaf springs then you need the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit w/ Heavy Duty Gas Shocks # LC281281. The full instructions have been linked to this answer page for you to reference but I've cut out the part of the instructions that has to do with determining where to place the mounting bracket for the shocks on the trailer frame. The "4A + 2" measurement is going to come out to 11-1/16" + 2" so that will be 13-1/16" altogether.

We also have a handful of replacement axles that might work for your upgrade as well. If you check out the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles # e55GR you'll just need to confirm your hub-face (A) and spring-center (B) measurements which I've also attached for you to check out. If his axle matches your measurements then you'll also need the Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 so the leaf springs sit on top of the axle.
