Updated 07/28/2025 | Published 05/01/2022

Question:

I have a very expensive Yakima bike rack but cannot find the key. Any way I can get it replaced? I have a key I thought fit the rack but it doesnt turn. Am I doing something wrong? The rack has been sitrting in my garage for 15 years. Thanks

It truly depends on what bike rack you have and what key code you have with the locks. If the key you have doesn't turn the lock, it most likely is not the correct key for the rack.

The best way to proceed is to make sure the key you have matches the code on the lock cylinder. Most of the time, there is a 4-character key code that is etched on the key and the lock cylinder itself just above the key hole. For example, if you have a code that is A136, the correct key you would need is the Replacement Key for Yakima Racks and Carriers - A136 # Y8772-A136.

In order to determine what key you need, feel free to respond with the model of rack you have as well as the key code and I will be happy to point you in the right direction.

I can’t find any numbers on my bike rack. It is the Yakima 5 bike tilt-away rack with the red number at the bottom. It turns to tighten the rack. Where do I look for the number

@JudyS If your bike rack is unlocked you can use the Replacement Control Key # Y8007835 to remove the lock core and see what numbers are printed on the side of the lock core. The only other way to know what the number is on your lock core is if you have another key or if you recorded the key number prior to needing another one. You can also just get the Yakima Same Key System # Y07202 which comes with the control key as well as 2 replacement keys and cores.
