Question:
Id like a brake controller that uses OBDII info for faster, more accurate trailer braking. When ed for my Mazda CX9, etrailer includes this controller but the manufacturer doesnt list it as Mazda compatible. It does include Ford, and Im aware Ford and Mazda co-develop things so maybe its compatible via Ford compatibility. Does this controller work with Mazdas? have previous customers had it work?

I do have a great trailer brake controller option for a 2014 Mazda CX9 but nothing will be completely plug-in-play. That said, I do have an option that will not require any splicing into the vehicle, you must first start with a four way trailer connector and if you don't already have one I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 56016. This can then be converted into a seven way using an adapter like the 4 to 7-Way Vehicle Wiring Harness part # ETBC7L. This will then pair great with a wireless trailer brake controller like the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180. In regards to installation, the four way is a plug-in, the adapter is also plug-in but you need to run a power wire, and the controller is plug-in as well.
There's nothing that plugs into the OBDII as that's for diagnostics and does not have any of the input/output needed for a trailer brake controller. The Tuson DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller uses the ODBII but it doesn't send trailer brake signals through this.
