Preventing Scale in RV Water Tank

Hi, I read here that an aluminum tank does not need an anode rod, I just replaced my heating element and flushed my tank in a five year old RV and out came at least a cup full white flakey stuff. What will prevent this?

What you are seeing is scale, this is a buildup of minerals inside of your water heater, calcium and magnesium are usually the primary minerals but it is probably others as well. Regular flushing of your tank as you have done is good thing, but this is coming from the water source. The purpose of the anode rod is to help protect the steel water heater tanks from corroding. Using a filter such as the AquaFresh Exterior RV Water Filter, # A01-1132VP on your inlet hose connection allows you to filter your water before entering the RV's system helping to reduce sediment and scale. This is a quick and easy solution that is very cost effective at minimizing this issue for you. Regular use of this filter and tank flushing is my recommendation.
