Turning on Head Lights of 2016 Ford Fusion w/ Curt 4-Way Installed Gives Constant Power to Trailer
Updated 03/18/2022 | Published 03/17/2022 >
Question:
2016 Ford Fusion SE Installed this in June 2020 and it worked fine. Last fall I found with the cars headlights turned on the trailer has constant power to tail, turn, and stop lights. I tested this with the trailer and with a trailer light tester. Im confident its the curt converter. If I turn the cars headlights off, the trailer stop and turn signals work fine. How would you recommend to fix? I know Im out of warranty. Another note is the trailer I have is a small utility trailer with LED lights. Not anything special with standard 2 rear lights and 2 running lights. I would have thought this would be no problem for this converter. Thanks for your advice. Ive purchased a couple hitches from you over the years and been very pleased.

While you mentioned the converter of the Curt T-Connector # C56351 being the issue on your 2016 Ford Fusion, that is pretty unlikely (possible, but not likely). For issues with the headlights, when turning them on causes constant power or a loss of function, the issue the vast majority of time is a bad ground somewhere.
So check where you screwed in the ground wire on the frame, make sure it isn't loose or dirty or there isn't another connection issue and I'm very confident the issue will be fine.
