How To Test A 7-Way And 6-Way Socket For Wiring Issues

Question:

I am unsure where problem is in wiring between Class c RV, Roadmaster Nighthawk, and towed Jeep. I am looking for a tester for the towed side of the Roadmaster Nighthawk. I have a tester for 7 pin on RV. Most I have found in 6 way have female pins unlike the Roadmaster.

If you're trying to test both your 7-way and 6-way sockets you can just use the LCD Digital Circuit Tester # PTW2992 and test each function to ensure the signal is coming through. On the 7-way you can test the pins with the circuit tester (ex: turn on the left turn signal and check the bottom right pin). If you're getting all signals then plug in your adapter cable and check the 6-way connect on the cable to ensure it's not just damaged.

On the 6-way you'll need to have your cable plugged in making the connection between the motorhome and vehicle and just do the same thing but touch the wires on the back side of the 6-way socket to see if the signal is being lost. If you're getting a signal at the 6-way then the issue is either with the way the wiring was installed past the 6-way or you may have a bad diode.

I've attached a diagram of the pin functions to help make this easier.
