Question:
I am installing the chinook 2 bike rack and have a locking hitch pin. It says to tighten to 40 ft. lbs. I dont have a torque wrench. Can I just tighten the hitch pin until I feel its extremely tight or do i need to invest in a torque wrench? Can I ruin it if I try to tighten it too much?

Expert Reply:
I would personally invest in a torque wrench like # PTW3001C. You could attempt to tighten it with your hands but with it not getting to proper ft. lbs while driving in the locking pin could loosen itself during your trip and fall off resulting in your bike rack slipping out and getting damaged, but with # PTW3001C you will not have to worry about it.
