Question:

the piece that the head fits onto how tight should the part that slides be. mine can be moved back a forth by hand

You should not be able to manually turn, not easily at least, the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider, # DM8550024. The movement of the hitch head side to side should only be possible when the weight of the trailer is on the hitch head. The reason for this is so you will be able to connect at the same angle you disconnected from the trailer so that head won't easily move as you connect your trailer making it more difficult to align. That connection and disconnection is basically straight on.

I’ve used this hit already and it has what I thought was fine after reading this I’m concerned with a manufacturer defect. I can slide the head by hand. I had it professionally installed so I know nothing about the hitch
