Helping Wire Up Trailer 7-Way with Non-Standard Color Codes

Question:

I am confused with the color codes. I purchased Hopkins 7 blade model 48510. My travel trailer is 1964 Shasta and has 6 wirings. These colors are Red, White, Black, Green, Yellow and Brown do not have blue. On Hopkins wire identification indicates GD, LT, T/M, BU, AX, RT, and EB. So do you know which color goes to these code?

While there are two generally accepted color codes used on 7-ways both of them use the color blue for the brake output so you most likely have wiring that is just not a standard we can give you an easy answer for. That said it sounds like you have closer to the RV standard since you have a red wire. Normally that would go:

Green for taillight
Black for 12 volt power
Brown for right turn/stop
Blue for brake output from controller
White for ground
Red for left stop/turn
Yellow for reverse lights

I'd use a jumper cable from a 12 volt car battery positive post to test each of the pins to see which circuit lights up and that would tell you exactly what you have.
