Yes, you will be able to use a single Thule Hullavator # TH898 on your bare-roof 2016 Ford Fusion. However, one of the challenges with using the Hullavator on your Fusion is the correct crossbar length you need. Since the Hullavator requires at least 4 inches of crossbar space after the feet, you need to make sure that the crossbars are long enough. Based on pictures and videos of other models of Ford Fusions, I recommend using longer crossbars than the recommended 50" Yakima bars. For this route, I recommend the following setup:
- Yakima JetStream Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 60" Long # Y00426
- BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Naked Roofs # Y28TR
- BaseClip Fit Kit for Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack Towers # Y06110
- Same-Key Lock Cores # Y07204
With the 60 inch crossbars, you will have extra crossbar length available. In order to make sure these crossbars are long enough, I recommend measuring the length of your roof from door jamb to door jamb. If that measurement does not exceed 52 inches long, you will have enough crossbar length with the # Y00426. I went ahead and attached a video that shows these crossbars installed on a 2013 model Ford Fusion to provide you with perspective of how much length you will have. The Hullavator will clamp around the JetStream crossbars perfectly.
This setup provides you with 120 pounds of maximum weight capacity. The Hullavator itself weighs 39.7 lbs, so you have a lot of capacity to work with. As with all roof rack applications, I recommend consulting with your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure your roof can accommodate the weight you wish to transport.
