How long do the batteries last with normal use

The Excel RV Tankless On-Demand Water Heater - Gas - Electric Ignition - Ventless - 38,000 Btu # EX93FR comes with 2 size D carbon batteries that are intended for initial use, they last about 4 months if used daily.
The batteries are used to run the electronic module and to hold the gas solenoid open during operation, so the amperage is very low.
Off the shelf Alkaline Size D batteries, upon replacement will last 6 or 8 months of daily showers.
