Does Blue Ox Base Plate Kit for 2002 Chevy Tahoe Have 5,000 lb Weight Capacity

Question:

BX1682 is supposed to be the part to use for towing our 2002 Chevy Tahoe BUT... per installation manual its good for up to 5000 lbs. The owners manual for our Tahoe lists curb weight at 5050 but GVWR is 6900. So even completely empty our Tahoe would be over the limit listed for the BX1682. Can you please confirm weight ratings and/or correct part to use.

This is a really good question. So I checked out the weight capacity section of the Blue Ox base plate kit part # BX1682 that fits your 2002 Chevy Tahoe and the wording is a little tricky, but what they are actually referring to with the 5,000 lb weight capacity is the tow bar it's used with. So as long as you use a tow bar that has a higher weight capacity like the Blue Ox part # BX7420 you'd be totally fine. This tow bar has a 10k capacity.
