Typically the rule of thumb is that you replace the regulator with a like regulator. So if you currently have a single stage regulator, you would use a single stage like the MB Sturgis Single Stage Propane Regulator # 108072. If you currently have a two stage regulator, you would use a two stage regulator like the MB Sturgis Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 108221.
If you are not sure what regulator you have, or you do not have a regulator yet then I would recommend the MB Sturgis Horizontal 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 108221. The two stage would still provide what the single stage does, but it will provide a more consistent steady gas flow.
