Does Fascia Need to be Trimmed For Draw-Tite Hitch Install on 2021 VW Atlas

Question:

I recently purchased the DrawTite class III #76176 as recommended by this site. When I went to lift the receiver in to place, it didn’t fit and it seems like I’ll have to cut a notch in the under side of my rear bumper for it to fit. Am I doing something wrong? What are your recommendations?

You are not doing anything wrong at all; with the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76176 that fits your 2021 VW Atlas, it is possible that on some vehicles the fascia will need to be trimmed in order for the receiver to protrude properly.

That isn't the case with all, but for whatever reason, Draw-Tite did not mention this in the instructions. So you'll want to measure the area so the # 76176 receiver can extend correctly, likely about a 3-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" long section.
