Question:

Im looking for a good trailer winch that will not rust. I have a 16 ft. aluminum Starcraft boat. Not familiar with the term TUFTPLATE. Can you explain what it is?

TUFFPLATE is the special finish Dutton-Lainson uses on their products like the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake - TUFFPLATE Finish - Freewheel - 2,500 lbs # DL15761. This is a zinc plated finish which is three times more corrosion resistant when compared to standard zinc plating and 30% greater when compared to powder coat finish.

According to their testing, the TUFFPLATE finish provides in excess of 100 hours before the first white corrosion and 500 hours before red rust forms. They uses an extra thick layer of zinc, a trivalent chrome conversion layer, and a sealer. If you're looking for rust protection this will serve you well.
