Question:

I placed my order for the Curt trailer hitch C57CR. 1 1/4. I also ordered the Swagman XC2 bike rack S64650. I received an email notifying me that they are incompatible. the reason, the trailer hitch is Class 1 and the bike rack is Class 2 and 3 fits 1 1/4inch and 2inch hitches Why is it incompatible? What are the compatible bike racks for this trailer hitch?

I checked our website and Swagman's and got the same information. While both the capacity of the Swagman XC2 bike rack item # S64650 and the Curt trailer hitch item # C57CR are within capacity, and will mechanically work together, Swagman says it needs to used on a minimum Class 2 hitch receiver. On some of the older hitches there was a metal piece welded into the rear of the 1 1/4" receivers. This was done so you couldn't insert the 1 1/4" bike rack into the 1 1/4" hitch receiver.

The Swagman Chinook Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount item # S64683 is a comparable bike rack and is rated for a class 1 and 2 hitch receiver.
