Recommended Tire Chains for 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon

Published 12/11/2021

Question:

I live in los angeles and certain mountain areas require having chains for your vehicle during certain weather conditions. I have read that snow chains are not to be used for outback due to the low clearance. I asked my local dealer and they said you can use snow cables but not snow chains I saw your youtube video and you recommend the #1046 chains for the outback. - are these cables vs chains that my dealer recommeded? - my tire size is 225/60/R18, which is not listed on the sizes for this product on your website. Will the #1046 fit my tire? - Do I need to buy the chains for 2 or 4 tires? If the answer is 2, would I put on them on the front or rear tires?

The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, # PW1046 is confirmed to fit the 2016 Subaru Outback Wagon equipped 225/60-18 tires. These easy-to-install chains comply with all DOT specifications and fit either front- or rear-wheel-drive vehicles. If you install only one set, I recommend doing so on the front set of tires. But can install on all four tires if you choose to. If your dealer made recommendation of a set of cables, it would be of similar design if not the same item.

To keep your chains centered and maintain proper tension, you definitely want to use a pair of rubber adjusters like # PW105 as well.
