Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator Indicator Showing Black

Updated 12/13/2021 | Published 12/11/2021

Question:

With both tanks disconnected the indicator is black. Should it be showing red? I have one that I have used 4 tanks on and have switched the lever as I change the tanks but have never seen it turn red. Ran completely out of gas in both tanks once.

The plunger in Camco's regulators like the Camco Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator for Dual Propane Tanks # CAM59005 is a plastic piece that is only red and green. If you're seeing black then the regulator is either defective or the plunger wasn't installed when the regulator was manufactured. Either way I recommend replacing the regulator with another so that you can have an accurate tank reading.

If you'd like to go this route I recommend the Compact Low Pressure 2-Stage Automatic Changeover RV LP Gas Regulator # 37207-31525 from JR Products. This regulator has a similar design with an indicator that is much easier to see.
