Troubleshooting Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Affecting Tow Vehicle Brakes Without Trailer Connected
Published 11/25/2021 >
Question:
RE: Redarc Model # RED44FR Installed into: 2005 Tahoe Z71. Installed per instructions. Towed a trailer 2-Axle ... No problems... During a trip No Trailer Connected ... On a down-grade of 6...ABS was surging the brakes harshly. Pulled over... removed the unit power lead...brakes were fine then. Unit is mounted solid against side metal in DS kick panel to truck metal. Used correct connector for unit to vehicle connections. Is there a fix for this..? Thanks,

If disconnecting the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR from your Tahoe fixed your braking problem when you weren't towing then you need to double check the installation. I know you said you installed it per the instructions but sometimes a step may be missed or someone takes a shortcut in what wires they connect the unit to so you need to recheck all of your connections as any aftermarket brake controller should not be affecting the vehicle brakes whatsoever.
